Fenris concept art by Matt Rhodes.
The second one is pretty interesting because to me it implies the process of lyrium implantation the best, since the stippling resembles a tattooing technique that’s technologically possible for basically any era/culture that has long pointy needle things. But, yeah, cultural appropriation, canon atypical level of detail and distractibility issues…
But the last one! I can see where it kinda fits into his backstory where he spent some time chillin’ in a contested qunari area, but THE TINY, TINY VEST. Does it cut off his circulation? Does he wear it because he has chronic coldneck? How does you, tiny tiny vest? I also like that he’s either had those shackles on for what, EIGHT YEARS or specifically went out and either commissioned or found the most shacklecore braclets possible, which if you don’t think is funny as shit get outta my face
It’s an interesting read, both for the process behind the art and for early/unused ideas in the two games.
Rhodes’ dedication to preserving goofiness is admirable.
E: Man, everything i’ve heard from the artists makes the development of DA2 sound like some epic skirmish between factions, holy moley.

I still love the Balthier phase he went through. Let’s be honest, who hasn’t gone through that phase?

The above images represent a process in creating concept art, from matte painting, to adding 3d assets, to combining the two and finally implementing with complete asset layout.
