Tangled concept art, by Glen Keane

Flynn from Tangled was going to be huge and Stabbington-sized, in comparison to Rapunzel, to make the relationship seem “accepting”, so Rapunzel would seem less shallow.

As if to teach a lesson that not ALL 16th century urchin thieves (half the populace) were rapists and murderers; general scary mean guys, despite their intimidating looks.

Then, to appeal more to the target audience of female teens and little girls, they made him Prince Charming with a personality, so you know he’s ‘good and pretty’, and there wouldn’t be a societal issue in pairing a 25+ year old ex-con with someone the size of a 14 year old.

The panel of women who decided what makes a man attractive had the ideal of a man who looks like this, with a constant Dreamworks face, thus the ‘handsome’ Flynn was born, and the lovable giant Bastion was scrapped.

Damnit. I love that design. He’s just so huggable. I think I would have like Flynn (Or Bastion) more if he was bear-Flynn.

I would have loved if they had left his design this way, it would have been a nice change from the usual Disney pretty boy prince charming.

    I’d hit it!

Awwww. While I get why Flynn Rider was eventually chosen instead of this lovely anti-Gaston concept, this would be ALL OVER MY RELEVANT INTERESTS RADAR considering my pairing preferences *coughALIBEAR/AEDUCANcough*

In my head, Bastion has Patrick Warburton’s voice

I like his kicky jacket. I’ve always thought he would be a better choice, message-of-acceptance-wise, but when it comes to marketing, Fynn was the obvious one.

    STILL

LOOKIT THAT HUG AGWEGGGGGG cuties. I would totally be sold on a Disney movie that doesn’t have a traditional male/female romantic relationship dynamic, and instead has the two just being bros (in the surrogate family sense and not the fratboy one). Has there been a single movie, disney or other that said boys and girls CAN be just friends and still have a fulfilling, close relationship? I sure as hell know there’s been bullshit movies that explicitly say IMPOSHSIBLE.  It’s a stupid convention and it feels about time to start flipping that convention table.

    THIS DERAIL, IN SUMMARY:

MORE FRIENDSHIPS. FRIENDSHIPS FOR THE FRIENDSHIP GOD. HUGS FOR THE HUG THRONE.
